Preaching to King Jambupati Posture

สมัยหนึ่งพระพุทธเจ้าประทับอยู่ ณ วัดเวฬุวัน เมืองราชคฤห์ มีกษัตริย์องค์หนึ่งนามว่า พระเจ้าชมพูบดี เจ้าผู้ครองนครปัญจาละ มีความละโมบจึงรุกรานเมืองราชคฤห์ หมายจะยึดครองจนพระเจ้าพิมพิสาร ต้องหนีไปพึ่งบารมีพระพุทธเจ้า พระพุทธองค์ทรงรับสั่งให้พระอินทร์แปลงเป็นราชทูตไปทูลเชิญพระเจ้าชมพูบดี จากนั้นทรงเนรมิตวัดเวฬุวันให้เป็นเมืองที่วิจิตรงดงามกว่าเมืองใด ๆ ในชมพูทวีป และเนรมิตพระองค์เป็นกษัตริย์ประดับด้วยเครื่องทรงกษัตริย์ทุกอย่างประทับเหนือรัตนบัลลังก์ท่ามกลางเหล่าอำมาตย์ เพื่อทรมานให้พระเจ้าชมพูทวีปลดทิฐิมานะลง พระเจ้าชมพูบดี ยอมรับฟังพระธรรมเทศนาตระหนักถึงโทษของความโลภในสมบัติของผู้อื่น เบื่อหน่ายในราชสมบัติอันไม่ยั่งยืน ทูลขออุปสมบทในพระพุทธศาสนา และบรรลุธรรมเป็นพระอรหันต์ในที่สุด

While the Lord Buddha was staying at Veluvana monastery in Rajagaha, there was a king named Jambupati who ruled over Panjala country. He was a greedy king, so he attacked Rajagaha, forcing King Bimbisara to flee from the city to ask for help from the Lord Buddha. The Lord Buddha then ordered Indra God to disguise as an ambassador to invite Jambupati to his residence. Then, he used his magic to turn Veluvana monastery into an extraordinary exquisite city unlike any others in South Asia as well as turned himself a King with resplendent royal garments, sitting on the pavilion amidst the high-ranking officials. His intention was to lower the conviction of King Jambupati. Seeing so, the King succumbed to the Lord Buddha and accepted the Buddhist teachings until he realized in the wickedness of greed. He felt bored of the impermanent state of wealth and asked to be ordained as a Buddhist monk and finally attain arahantship.
