Mara Vichaya Posture (Subduing Mara Posture)

ในคราวที่พระมหาบุรุษประทับนั่งที่โคนต้นโพธิ์ซึ่งเรียกว่า โพธิบัลลังก์ เพื่อทรงบำเพ็ญทางใจนั้น ในพุทธประวัติเล่าถึงเหตุการณ์เป็นบุคลาธิฐานว่า พญามารพร้อมด้วยเสนามารเป็นจำนวนมากยกทัพ มุ่งหมายจะทำลายความเพียรของพระองค์ ด้วยวิธีการต่าง ๆ แม้กระทั่งตู่โพธิบัลลังก์ว่าเป็นของตน พระมหาบุรุษต่อสู้ด้วยพระบารมีคือ ความดีที่ได้ทรงบำเพ็ญไว้ในชาติปางก่อนเป็นลำดับมายังผลให้พญามารพ่ายแพ้กลับไปในที่สุด

The Great Man practiced his meditation on Bodhi Banland which also known as Vajrasana, the seat of stability under the Banyan tree. In "the life-story of the Buddha" referred to this event in personification. Mara, represented evils, and his army attempted to prevent the Buddha from attaining enlightment. They used all methods even claiming that Vajrasana belonged to Mara. The Great Man fought with his good deeds from his past lives and finally defeated the Mara.
