หลังจากที่พระมหาบุรุษทรงลอยถาดแล้ว ในตอนบ่ายวันเดียวกันได้เสด็จไปยังต้นโพธิ์ ระหว่างทางได้พบกับชายคนหนึ่งชื่อโสตถิยะ ถือหญ้าคา 8 กำ เดินสวนทางมา นายโสตถิยะเลื่อมใสในอาการที่เรียบร้อยแต่องอาจของพระมหาบุรุษทราบพระประสงค์แล้ว จึงถวายหญ้าคาทั้ง 8 กำ พระองค์ทรงรับหญ้าคาแล้ว นำไปปูเป็นที่ประทับนั่ง ณ โคนต้นโพธิ์

In the evening of the day the Great Man floated the vessel, he walked back to the Banyan tree, On his way, he met a man Sotthiya who held eight bundles of grass in his hands. The grass-carrier respected the Great Man's well-manner and gracefulness. When he learned the monk's determination, he gave him the grass as the offering. The Great Man took the grass and made it his seat under the Banyan tree.
