Floating the Vessel Posture


หลังจากที่พระมหาบุรุษ เสวยข้าวมธุปายาสจนหมดแล้ว ทรงลอยถามลงในแม่น้ำเนรัญชรา พร้อมทรงอธิษฐานว่า "ถ้าหากว่าพระองค์จะได้สำเร็จเป็นพระพุทธเจ้าขอให้ถาดทองคำนี้ จงลอยทวนกระแสน้ำ" ดังนี้แล้วจึงปล่อยพระหัตถ์ พุทธประวัติกล่าวถึงปาฎิหารย์ตอนนี้ว่า ถาดนั้นได้ลอยทวนกระแสน้ำขึ้นไป จนถึงวังน้ำวนแห่งหนึ่ง จึงจมหายลงไปถึงที่อยู่ของพญากาฬนาคราช ไปกระทบกับถาดสามใบของพระพุทธเจ้าในอดีตสามพระองค์เสียงดังกริ๊ก ด้วยสัญญาณดังกล่าว ทำให้พญานาคทราบว่า พระพุทธเจ้าจะเกิดขึ้นในโลกมนุษย์อีกองค์หนึ่ง

After eating all of the 49 portions of Madhupayasa, the Great Man floated the vessel in the Neranjara river. Before he dropped the vessel, he made a wish, "If the tray floats upstream without sinking, it is a sign that I will attain enlightment." In "the life-story of the Buddha" referred to this magical moment that the vessel floated upstream to a whirlpool and finally sank near the abode of Kala Nagaraja. Once the vessel fell upon three vessels belonging to the three previous Buddhas, the great Naga then realized there would be another Buddha in human world.
