The Prince Cuts His Hair Posture

ครั้นเจ้าชายสิทธัตถะมหาบุรุษ ทรงม้ากัณฐกะข้ามแม่น้ำอโนมานที พร้อมกับนายฉันทะแล้ว เสด็จลงจากหลังม้า ประทับนั่งบนแท่นเหนือทรายอันขาวสะอาด รับสั่งแก่นายฉันทะว่า "เราจักถือเพศบรรพชิตที่นี่" ทรงเปลื้องเครื่องประดับของกษัตริย์ทั้งหมดให้นายฉันทะพร้อมกับม้ากัณฐกะ เพื่อกลับไปกราบทูลแจ้งข่าวพระประยูรญาติให้ทรงทราบ จากนั้น ทรงเห็นว่า (ผม) นี้ไม่สมควรแก่เพศบรรพชิต จึงทรงจับพระเมาลี (มวยผม) ด้วยพระหัตถ์ซ้าย พระหัตถ์ขวาจับพระขรรค์แล้วตัดพระเมาลีออกเสีย

Prince Siddhattha, the Great Man, rode the horse Kanthaka crossed Anoma River. He was accompanied by Channa. He dismounted the horse then sat on a white sand beach. "I would enter the ascetic life here," he told Channa. Then he gave his royal jewelry and his horse to Channa so the attendant could go to his palace and inform his family about his decision.

The Prince thought that his long hair was not suited to a monk so he grabbed his top-knol with his left hand and cut his hair off with the short sword in his right hand.
