พระพุทธรูปปางทรงพิจารณาชราธรรม
Considering Old Age Posture

สมัยเมือพระพุทธองค์ทรงบรรลุถึงชราภาพแล้ว ครั้งหนึ่งได้ตรัสกับพระอานนท์ ณ มิศารมาตุปราสาทในบุพพารามความว่า "ความแก่ซ่อนอยู่ในความหนุ่ม ความเจ็บไข้ซ่อนอยู่ในสุขภาพที่สมบูรณ์ และความตายซ่อนอยู่ในชีวิต" และได้ตรัสข้อความดังต่อไปนี้อีกว่า "โอ ความแก่ อันทำให้เกิดความน่าเกลียดเอ๋ย กายที่น่าพึงพอใจ บัดนี้ถูกเจ้าย่ำยีหมดแล้ว แม้ใครจะมีชีวิตอยู่ตั้งร้อยปี ก็ต้องตายอยู่ดี ความตายย่ำยีทุก ๆ คนไม่ยอมยกเว้นให้แก่ใครเลย"

When the Lord Buddha reached the old age, he once said to Ananda that "Oldness is camouflaged in the youthfulness, illness is camouflaged in good health and death is camouflaged in life". He continued his saying that "Oh, oldness which is the cause of disgustiing. The pleasant living beings are now completely destroyed. Even though anyone can live to the hundredth year of age, that person would finally die one day. Death comes to everyone and it is inevitable for all living creatures".
