Making a Footprint Posture

สมัยที่พระพุทธเจ้าทรงมีพระชนม์อยู่ ครั้งหนึ่งพร้อมด้วยพระสงฆ์ประมาณ 500 รูป เสด็จสู่เกาะลังกา ตรงกับวันเพ็ญเดือน 6 ทรงอธิษฐานแล้วประทับรอบพระบาทไว้ เพื่อแสดงให้เห็นว่าศาสนาของพระองค์จะมาเจริญรุ่งเรืองที่เกาะลังกานี้ (ปัจจุบันคือประเทศศรีลังกา) อนึ่ง ตามตำนานกล่าวว่า รอยพระบาทของพระพุทธเจ้านั้น จะปรากฎในที่ที่พระองค์ทรงอธิษฐานไว้เท่านั้น และไม่มีอะไรสามารถทำลายรอยพระพุทธบาทได้

Once in the 6th lunar morning during the Buddha's lifetime, the Lord Buddha had travelled along with his 500 disciples to Lanka. Then, he made a footprint and prayer that his religion would one day prosper in Lanka (which is Sri Lanka of the present day). The legend has it that the Buddha's footprint would appear only at the places where he made the prayer and no one is able to remove.
