Receiving a Mango Posture

หลังจากที่พระพุทธเจ้ารับสั่งแก่พระเจ้าปเสนทีโกศลว่า จะทำปาฎิหารย์ที่โคนต้นมะม่วง (โคนต้นคัณฑามพฤกษ์) พวกเดียรถีย์ (นักบวชนอกพุทธศาสนา) สั่งให้บริวารของตนถอนทำลายต้นมะม่วงทุกต้นในบริเวณนั่น เพื่อขัดขวางการทำยมกปาฎิหารย์ของพระพุทธเจ้า ครั้นถึงเช้าวันเพ็ญเดือน 8 คนดูแลสวนของพระเจ้าปเสนทิโกศล ชื่อ คัณฑะ ได้ถวายผลมะม่วงสุกนั้นทำเป็นน้ำปานะ ถวายพระพุทธองค์ ครั้นเสวยเสร็จก็รับสั่งให้นายคัณฑะปลูกเม็ดมะม่วงในที่นั้น พอพระองค์ทรงล้างพระหัตถ์ลงบนปากหลุมเสร็จเท่านั้น เมล็ดมะม่วงก็ออกหน่อเจริญเติบโตแผ่กิ่งก้านสาขาเป็นร่มเงาใหญ่สมบูรณ์ด้วยช่อและผลในทันใด อนึ่ง เพราะเหตุที่นายคัณฑะถวายจึงเรียกต้นมะม่วงนั้นว่า คัณฑามพฤกษ์

The Buddha informed to King Pasenadi of Kosala that he would perform a miracle under a mango tree. Some heretics then ordered their followers to cut all the mango trees as to prevent the Buddha from performing miracle. But in a morning of the 8th lunar morning, a gardener of King Pasenadi of Kosala whose name was Ganda had given him a big, ripe mango. Then, Ananda pressed the mango into a bowl to make the mango juice and offered it to the Buddha, after which he ordered the mango seed planted. Immediately, a large tree grew, with plenty of fruits. And for that reason, the mango tree was named Ganda Tree after the name who offered mango to the Buddha.
