พระพุทธรูปปางชี้อัครสาวก
(Identifying Chief Disciples Posture)

เมื่อพระพุทธเจ้าประทับ ณ เวฬุวัน เมืองราชคฤห์ สองสหายคือ โกลิตะและอุปติสสะ (โมคคัลลานะและสารีบุตร) เดินทางไปเข้าเฝ้า ขณะที่พระองค์กำลังแสดงธรรมแก่ประชาชนจำนวนมาก พอพระพุทธองค์ทอดพระเนตรเห็นสองสหายนั้นมาแต่ไกล ก็ทรงชี้ให้พุทธบริษัททราบว่า จักเป็นคู่อัครสาวกที่สำคัญ หลังจากที่สองสหายอุปสมบทแล้ว พระโมคคัลลานะได้เป็นอัครสาวกเบื้องซ้าย ผู้เลิศด้วยฤทธิ์ และสารีบุตรเป็นอัครสาวกเบื้องขวา ผู้เลิศด้วยปัญญา

The Lord Buddha stayed at Veluvana, Rajagaha. Two friends, - Kolita and Upatissa (Moggallana and Sariputta) went to see him while he taught dhamma to a large number of people. When the Lord Buddha saw them from far away, he pointed at them and told people that both Kolita and Upatissa would become the Chief Disciples after adopting the ascetic life. Moggallana became the Chief Disciple (left hand side) who was excelled in might and power. Sariputta became the Chief Disciple (right hand side) who excelled in intellect.
